The terroir from Beira Interior
The International Douro Natural Park
The demarcated area known as Beira Interior or International Douro Natural Park is located in the heart
of continental Portugal’s northern inlands, close to the border with Spain. It is an area filled with castles and forts placed along the borderline. The wine-growing region is mainly located in the Pinhel and Castelo Rodrigo areas, where vineyards contrast with granitic castles and fortresses. This territory offers us high-quality white wines. The white wines are dominated by grape varieties like Síria, not to mention Fonte Cal, Malvasia and Arinto, while the red wines are dominated by grape varieties like Touriga Nacional, not to mention Rufete, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz.
The Protected Designation of Origin (DOP) known as Beira Interior was created in 1999. It is a territory with a wine-growing past that dates back to the foundation of the Portuguese nation. These vineyards are grown on granitic and schistose soils. They are influenced by the Estrela, Marofa and Malcata mountains, with altitudes that vary between 400 and 700 meters. They face a harsh climate with hot, dry summers and extremely cold winters. This terroir creates extremely fresh and aromatically exuberant white wines, while its red wines have complex aromas that include wild fruits and spices combined with strikingly fresh notes. Currently, Beira Interior stands out as a region that produces wines with an outstanding quality and that is
conquering its legitimate place among other important Portuguese wine-growing regions.
Organic Farming products
Continuing a family tradition, 2001 marked the beginning of the reconstruction and modernization of the farm through the growth of vineyards and olive groves according to the standards and challenges of Organic Farming.
Being a pioneering and innovative organic farming project at the local level, QC’s goal is to create authentic and unique wines and olive oils that are able to express all the richness of their terroir and reflect a genuine respect for Nature.
Our vineyards and olive groves, which are certified by SATIVA, are grown with the utmost rigour, without any chemical products, on the plants or soil that supports them. The farm’s vineyards are distributed across different plots: old vines, which are over 80 years old, and new vines that grow together with the olive grove and a forest with cork oaks, pine trees and oaks.
